Columbia Asia Enters Malaysia Book of Records with Highest Number of Antenatal Class Participants

Columbia Asia was recently accorded a page in the Malaysia Book of Records for holding the largest antenatal class ever held in the country. Columbia Asia was recently accorded a page in the Malaysian Book of Records for holding the largest antenatal class ever held in the country. This achievement was the result of a collaboration with two Columbia Asia Hospitals (Puchong and Petaling Jaya) and online parenting platform, MommyDaddy&i.

Grand and beneficial

The one-day affair saw 406 parents-to-be at the i-City Convention Centre in Shah Alam. The objective of this event was to prepare new parents for the arrival of their little one (or ones!). It was a comprehensive workshop with a program that was not only beneficial for the participants but also necessary.

Among the presenters at the event were experts from Columbia Asia Hospital – Puchong (CAH-P) who addressed the following topics — Guide to Eating Healthy During Pregnancy by dietician Mardiah Mat Din; Steps to Successful Lactation and Handling Your Little One; A Practical Session (Bathing Your Little One) by Nursing Supervisor Sister Nurhilyani Jaapar and Going Home With A New Baby – What To Expect by Consultant Pediatrician Dr. Cheok Sui Ann. Dr Nicholas Lim who is an O&G Specialist at Columbia Asia Hospital – PJ (CAH-PJ), also shared his knowledge, on the topic of Labor &  Delivery: What You Should Know.

Knowing the pains of labour

There was also a demonstration on how to bathe a newborn baby, led by Sister Nurhilyani. Each couple was given a mannequin baby to practice with. On top of that, there was a demonstration on how to use a TENS machine to manage pain during childbirth.

An amusing part of the event was when a group of lucky fathers were selected to wear the ‘empathy belly’; a contraption that simulates contraction during labor. Nothing quite like keeping it real for these dads!

The brands that made it happen

After the lucky draw session, it was time to end the event with the Malaysia Book of Records certificate presentation ceremony where three certificates were awarded to the organizers; CAH-PJ, CAH-P and MommyDaddy&i. Representing CAH-PJ in receiving its certificate was the hospital GM, Encik Yasser Arafat Ishak, and for CAH-P, its GM, Madam Ong Gait Cheng.

The Malaysia Book of Records representatives who presented them with the certificates were Mr Edwin Yeoh Chin and Puan Siti Nurhanim Mohd Noh. The VIP guest who graced the event was Chairperson from Puspanita, Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, Datin Roszita Imaduddin.
