Where A Baby Crawls

When your baby starts to get mobile and begins crawling or toddling from place to place in your home, you’ll soon realise how important it is to keep your surroundings, especially the floors, clean and safe. Babies are inquisitive by nature and they tend to grab, touch, and even taste anything they can get their hands on, which spells trouble for their safety.

Here are some tips on how to keep your floors danger-free for your precious little one.

Clean as often as needed
Instead of depending on your regular full-scale floor cleaning, which sometimes can’t be done often enough, a much more effective way to ensure your floor stays clean when your baby starts crawling is to do smaller scale cleaning whenever necessary. Your floors must be kept free from dust, dirt, and hair at all times, a feat that’s possible if you sweep or vacuum the floor a couple of times each day. Remember to pay particular attention to the areas your baby spends a lot of time in. Investing in a quality vacuum cleaner and a couple of good brooms will ensure that your efforts won’t be in vain.

Do away with harsh cleaning products
Contrary to popular belief, it’s not necessary to use strong, harsh cleaning products to gain satisfactory cleaning results. When you have a baby, you should ditch them and switch to either organic or natural floor cleaners. Most conventional floor cleaning products tend to include volatile chemicals as their active ingredients, rendering them unsafe for long-term use regardless if you have a baby or not! The fumes these products emit are potential health hazards and should be avoided by everyone. Fortunately, there are many safer alternative products in the market today. Read the labels before making a purchase – the lesser the ingredients, the better, and they should ideally be from natural sources.

Don’t leave stuff on the floor
When you have a baby crawling around, your floors should be bare, safe for you little one’s playthings. Never underestimate a baby’s ability to move quickly towards foreign objects that catch his or her eyes. Babies are experts at that, and at putting stuff into their mouth.

Double your efforts if you have pets
If you have pets, it’ll be even more important to be on top of the game when it comes to keeping your floors clean. Furs, dander, and even poop may be lying around unnoticed by anyone except your baby. If at all possible, try to keep pets away from the area of the floor your baby tends to crawl on the most, to keep that spot free from pet hair and bacteria. If your home happens to be carpeted, it’s especially important to vacuum regularly. A vacuum that efficiently picks up hairs and furs would be a good investment for your baby’s health and wellbeing.
