Simple Steps to Save $$$

We live in a world where spending money is almost as natural as eating and drinking. With every purchase we make, we end up with more stuff and less money, which is not a bad thing unless we’re buying things we don’t need. If you’d like to have more money and less stuff you don’t need for a change, this article is for you.

Reduce your shopping
It’s all too easy to part with your money whilst shopping for groceries and other household supplies. Firstly, here’s an interesting fact: Shopping for groceries when you’re hungry makes you buy more! So, if you have grocery shopping on the menu, don’t do it on an empty stomach.

The next important thing to remember is to think about what you need to buy. Many people get excited whenever they see special offers or promotions and that’s when overbuying occurs the most. Only buy what you need and use whatever you buy, no matter what.

Point to keep in mind when shopping for groceries and household supplies:

  • Make a list of what you need to buy and stick to it.
  • Only buy in bulk when you know you’ll use every last bit — especially when it comes to perishable foods.
  • Learn how to properly store food to make it last longer — don’t wait too long to use up your leftovers.

Before making any purchases, ask yourself these two questions:

  1. Do I need it?
  2. Will I use it?

Reuse as much as possible
Reusing and repurposing things are effective ways to save money in the long run. For instance, clothes that are too old or tattered to be given away can be cut up and used as kitchen rags, saving you money from buying new ones. They are way more economical and eco-friendly than using paper towels whenever there is a spill to be mopped up.

Sell gently used stuff to those who will use it
Anything you have that’s gently used and gathering dust could make you money and get a new life in another home. It’s a win-win situation for both sides: You’re recycling an item you don’t use to someone else, while the buyer is reducing his or her consumption by buying used instead of new. You can sell clothes, toys and children’s’ items, small appliances, furniture and more on Carousell or local garage sale groups.
