A couple of decades ago, this would not have been such a dilemma, but today, with the number of brands in the market, and each offering a variety of different features, parents may find themselves overwhelmed trying to pick out the ideal diaper for their baby’s needs.
The last thing any parent wants is to spend a small fortune stocking up on diapers only to find that their choice was unsuitable for their baby for some reason. Well, we’ve got you covered here, (pun intended!)
Here are some very useful tips on getting it right!
Does the Brand Matter?
When choosing the right diaper for your baby, going with a reputable brand will be your best bet. This is because brands that have been around for some time would already have the technology and expertise to produce top-notch products, with tests and research to back them too. This does not mean that newer brands aren’t good, but with a newborn’s delicate skin, reputable brands might just be safer to start off with.
Absorbency Power
While good absorbency is important to be able to hold poop and pee for longer, it may get a little tricky with diapers. A diaper’s absorbency usually depends on the kind of gel used in it, and for some babies, this gel may result in skin sensitivity, especially if the diaper is left on for too long. Try out a few samples of your diaper choice first – if your baby’s skin does not react to it, you can go ahead and stock up.
Comfort and Breathability
The diaper of your choice should be made to allow your baby’s skin to breathe. This is important as it will help airflow and keep your baby feeling fresher and more comfortable, and not to mention, it may help to prevent rashes too.
What’s Your Budget?
Firstly, it’s worth noting that a high price tag does not necessarily mean that a diaper brand is of the best quality. Work out how much you can comfortably spend on diapers a month or week, and then decide on the best diaper within your affordability.
Wetness Indicators
The disposable diaper has come a long way since it made its debut a few decades ago. Today, they include some pretty impressive features, and one of them is their ability to indicate from the outside, that a diaper is wet and needs to be changed. This indicator may be in the form of special lines or patterns that change color when the diaper needs changing.
A Good Fit
This includes the diaper’s stretching ability because if it’s stretchy enough, it will comfortably fit your little one’s bottom without leaving any creases and marks on the skin. As for a diaper’s size itself, take note that some babies may need a smaller or larger size than the recommended.
