Speech Academy Launches to Tackle Rising Speech and Developmental Challenges Facing Malaysian Children

More Malaysian families are noticing toddlers struggling with speech, eye contact, and sound adjustment, especially among children born during the pandemic. Unfortunately, many parents face year-long waitlists and therapy fees ranging from RM200 to RM300 per session, creating barriers to early intervention. This quiet but urgent issue is now gaining attention thanks to Speech Academy, a new initiative founded by Charlene Samuel, the visionary behind Autism Behavioral Center (ABC).

Since mid-July, Speech Academy has been operating in Desa Sri Hartamas with a mission to make early therapy accessible and affordable for all children, whether or not they have a formal diagnosis. The Academy aims to dismantle the stigma around seeking help and provide support to the growing number of families affected by developmental delays, particularly those in the COVID cohort.

“Early intervention is critical, but it should never be limited by cost or long wait times,” said Charlene Samuel, founder of Speech Academy. “Our goal is to create an inclusive space where families can access quality care without barriers.”

To introduce the community to their services, Speech Academy will host an Open Day on 16th August 2026. Families are invited to meet the team, learn about available therapies, and take advantage of free autism screenings.

Speech Academy is more than a clinic. It is a movement to transform how Malaysia supports its youngest learners and their families.
