Toddlers are bundles of joy, agreed, but it’s not always easy to keep them occupied, for most of them have short attention spans. Here are some ways you can have fun while spending quality time with your little one.
Sing and dance
Music can be so much fun for little kids, especially when mom or dad gets involved with it. The catchy melodies and rhythms of kiddie songs are all meant to entertain little ones, so put on a kiddie music CD and encourage your toddler to engage in some dancing and singing along. You can even pick your kid up and dance along with the music — the little one will love it.
Doll up!
Chances are, your toddler has more than one doll in his or her possession. Have a game of make-believe with those toys and let your little one take the cue from you in narrating what each doll has to say in this role-playing fun. This is just one fun way to sharpen your little one’s language skills while having loads of wholesome fun!
Bring out the books
Readout fairy tales and simple books to junior and let his or her imagination play out as you read, point, and intone each line of the story with as much expression as you can muster. This will effectively introduce them to words, objects, and so on.
Engage in a tickling war
Laughter has been proven to be good for human health and here is a sure winner when it comes to garnering fits of laughter and giggles! Remember too, to let your little one have a go at tickling you in return — Be a sport, and pretend that you’re super tickled and watch your toddler’s face light up with glee.
Taped down fun
Place a thick strip of duct tape on the floor and get your child to walk on it. They are allowed to jump over the line, hop on the line, and even run down the line. It is a fantastic way to amuse your kid or kids.
Taking it outdoors
There are loads of stuff to do with your toddlers outside too. Here are just a few examples:
Throw and Catch!
A simple game of throw and catch with a ball or Frisbee can turn out to be loads of fun! While there’s nothing elaborate or fancy in this activity, the rewards include a super happy child! Just throw the ball or Frisbee and ask your child to catch it and throw it back to you. It could turn out to be fun to watch, especially if your toddler is only beginning to learn how to throw!
Picture Perfect
When you go out, click photographs, for no reason at all, with your kid. Have them printed and developed and ask your child to identify the people in the photographs. This gets them to reflect on what they have captured in the shot and also instill a love for photography at a tender age.
Fun on Wheels
Get out the kiddie tricycles! Not only is it super fun for little ones, but it’s also a great exercise for them as well. Riding a tricycle will tone up your child’s muscles as your little biker develops a love for biking at a tender age.
